Join us on Wednesday 25th February for our second Monkey Spoon Cocktail Club of the year. This month’s theme is bitters, with a particular focus on the ancient Egyptians.
Bitters can be traced back as far as the ancient Egyptians. According to historians, they infused medicinal herbs in jars of wine. This practice was further developed upon the emergence of the middle ages. Many longstanding brands of bitters were originally developed as patient medicines. Today, they are now sold as digestifs and cocktail flavourings.
Our Monkey Spoon Cocktail Club starts at 6.30pm and costs £20 per guest. This includes three bitter-inspired cocktails, an historic journey through the origin of bitters, olives and crisps.

Celebrate from Monday 12th January with our “Wassailing” Caramelised Butter Loaf with Apple and Pomona – A small butter loaf soaked in Calvados, pan fried and finished in caramel, topped with caramelised apple compote, apple ice-cream and served with a ‘Pomona’ cider brandy soup. Wassail gets its name from the Old English team term “waes hael”, meaning “be well”.
Wassailing is an old British custom that takes place at the start of each year. Traditionally, villagers would drink to the health of the wassail apple and fruit trees to ensure a plentiful harvest. Warm cider was also drunk and buttered toast was placed in the trees as offerings to the spirits. In effect, Wassailing was meant to keep the tree safe from evil spirits until next year’s apples appeared.
Start your year well and treat yourself to “Wassailing” this January.

Thirsty? Our next Monkey Spoon Cocktail Club is on Wednesday 26th November. This month’s Cocktail Club focuses on ‘Savoury’ circa 2002 and looks at the savoury elements of a cocktail. The word ‘savoury’ normally refers to a richly flavoured food or drink that lacks sweetness.
Our Bar Manager, Ryan has been working on incorporating savoury ingredients, such as herbs, into our cocktails over the past year – and it is a cocktail category that is still being developed today.
During this month’s Cocktail Club, we will be tasting the following cocktails:
A Savoury Raspberry – Our Savoury Raspberry was our first cocktail to use basil and balsamic vinegar. It has been featured on Waitrose online, in competitions and is now provided as an example in our suppliers’ cocktail booklets.
A Tequila Smash – For spicy and herbal lovers, our Herbaceous Tequila Mix includes mint and chilli – a fiery concoction for your taste buds.
A Far East Mary – Our Far East Mary is a massive twist on the popular, Bloody Mary – a Thai-inspired treat for our Bloody Mary fans.
Our Monkey Spoon Cocktail Club starts at 6.30pm and costs £20 per person for three cocktails, olives, crisps, and an historic journey through the world of cocktails.
What are you waiting for? Book your spot today, call our reservations team on 01628 626151.
